  • Overview

Given the vast impacts anemia can have on a myelofibrosis patient’s quality of life, incorporating anemia management into our care plans is critical. In addition to considering disease stage, comorbidities, and genetic markers, leveraging counseling strategies can help us balance our own priorities with a patient’s individual preferences to create a tailored treatment approach. Here with Dr. Brian McDonough to share their perspectives on how shared decision-making can improve outcomes for myelofibrosis patients with anemia are Drs. John Mascarenhas and Lucia Masarova. Dr. Mascarenhas is the Director of the Center of Excellence for Blood Cancers and Myeloid Disorders at Mount Sinai in New York, and Dr. Masarova is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Leukemia within the Division of Cancer Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
