    A series of environmental investigations in recent years have revealed impactful quantities of pharmaceuticals in much of the nation's drinking water supply. Surveys tell us that a majority of insured Americans are taking at least one prescription medication, yet no efficient systems exist for routine disposal of drugs. Are there safer ways to help our patients dispose of unused or expired medication? Dr. Shirley Reitz, associate director of pharmacy clinical services for the Group Health Cooperative, a consumer-governed, non-profit healthcare system based in Seattle, details Group Health's pharmacy-based efforts to encourage proper medication waste disposal with host Dr. Charles Turck.
