    Hypertension is the most common underlying risk factor for the development of congestive heart failure. Dr. Barry Davis, the Guy S. Parcel Chair in Public Health and director of the Coordinating Center for Clinical Trials at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston, will review a recent analysis of the ALLHAT hypertension trial showing that diuretics significantly reduced the occurrence of new-onset heart failure in individuals with both a preserved and reduced ejection fraction.
