William Calhoun, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAAAAI, FACAAI

    Dr. William James Calhoun is a tenured professor, the vice chairman for research in the department of internal medicine, and currently the Sealy and Smith Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas (UT) Medical Branch at Galveston. He received his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1979. In 1985, he completed a pulmonary medicine fellowship at the University of Vermont in Burlington. He later completed an allergy/immunology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

    He is the principal investigator for the UT-Galveston site of the NIH-funded Asthma Clinical Research Network and the Severe Asthma Research Program.  A former chair of the program committee for the American Thoracic Society's Assembly on Allergy, Immunology and Inflammation, Dr. Calhoun remains very active in the American Thoracic Society. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and is a former member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
