In 1950, Dr. Startzman, or Dr. Vi as she is known, became the first pediatrician ever in Wooster, Ohio. Forty-five years later, Dr. Vi established the Healthcare 2000 Community Clinic to provide medical and dental care to low income, uninsured patients in Wayne County, Ohio. The clinic was later renamed the Viola Startzman Free Clinic in her honor. She even purchased and donated a larger building for the clinic to accommodate its growth. Today the clinic provides nearly 10,000 patient visits annually.
