Spencer King, III, MD

    Dr. Spencer B. King, III, is president and vice chairman of the board of directors at Saint Joseph's Heart and Vascular Institute and executive director of academic affairs at Saint Joseph's Health System in Atlanta, professor of medicine emeritus at Emory University School of Medicine, and a past president of the American College of Cardiology.

    In addition to his Emory professorships in the department of medicine (cardiology) and the department of radiology, during his tenure at Emory, which began in the early 1970s, Dr. King served as director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, director of the Cardiovascular Data Base of Emory University Hospital and Clinic, director of Interventional Cardiology, director of the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center. In recent years, he has worked as co-director of the American Cardiovascular Research Institute in Atlanta, and the Fuqua Chair of Interventional Cardiology at the Fuqua Heart Center at Piedmont Hospital, also in Atlanta.

    A master of the American College of Cardiology and a fellow of the American College of Physicians, European Society of Cardiology, American Heart Association (AHA) Council on Clinical Cardiology & Council Cardiovascular, and the Society for Cardiac Angiography & Interventions (SCAI), Dr. King is a member of numerous other organizations. Beyond this, he has held a range of other offices, including president of SCAI and president of the Georgia affiliate of AHA.

    Currently, Dr. King is chair of the Education and Training Committee for the World Heart Federation, chair of the Cardiology Domain at Northpoint Domain Inc., and chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at AiHeart Medical Technologies, Inc.

    Dr. King received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, served his internship at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, DC, and completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine.
