Dr. Neil R. Malhotra is assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Neurological Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital.

Dr. Malhotra's primary research interests focus on restorative approaches to treat degenerative disc disease, reduce the need for invasive surgery and offer better treatment for those who do not meet rigorous surgical criteria. This includes tissue engineering to develop treatments to restore native tissue mechanics of the spine while delivering therapeutic agents and supporting tissue regeneration. Dr. Malhotra was the 2007 recipient of a Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation fellowship from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons to develop these concepts.
