Mostafa Youssef, MD

    Dr. Mostafa Youssef was born in Egypt, and then grew up in Somalia, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and the United States, completing his basic schooling between these nations. He attended King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and graduated with his medical degree (MBBS) in February 1989, after which time he joined the university in the local internal medicine training program. Three years into his training, he decided to leave for Canada to continue his training, whereupon he acquired his Canadian fellowships and American board certificates in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology.

    Dr. Youssef was granted the unique opportunity to set up from scratch, a tertiary care center that receives cases from all over the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and had the privilege of being the founder of the Prince Salman Heart Center at the King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh, which has been functioning since November 2004. He presently holds the position of director at the Center.

    At present, he also serves as chair for the Saudi Heart Association International Committee and the scientific committee for the next Saudi Heart Association Meeting in 2010, and he also represents Saudi Arabia for the Ministers of Health of the Gulf States for the control and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

    As special professional achievements, he is proud to be the founder of the Saudi Arabian Cardiac Interventionalists Group, which was established in 2002. He is also directly involved in the preparation of the ten-year national prospective plan for the development and distribution of cardiac services within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as the preparation of a detailed set of recommendations setting the standards and specifications to be applied in the building of future cardiac facilities for the Ministry of Health for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    He continues to run a clinical practice and teach medical students, residents and fellows. He has a lovely family with a very supportive wife, who is his friend, and three wonderful children. He considers himself privileged and fortunate in all matters.
