Michael D. Ezekowitz, MBChB, DPhil, FRCP, FACC

Dr. Michael D. Ezekowitz is Professor of Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also Director of Atrial Fibrillation Research for the Cardiovascular Research Foundation in New York and practices as a noninvasive cardiologist.
Dr. Ezekowitz is a world authority in the management of atrial fibrillation. His research interests include basic arterial wall biology, imaging of clots in the heart, and most recently, the design and conduct of clinical trials related to atrial fibrillation. He has led 17 clinical trials including the first completed double-blind trial evaluating warfarin; was co-principal investigator of the RE-LY trial that led to the approval of dabigatran worldwide; and was a member of the executive committee of ENGAGE AF, which evaluated edoxaban in atrial fibrillation. Dr. Ezekowitz has written more than 350 publications, including a book on cardiac sources of systemic embolism, and has given more than 300 lectures internationally. Dr. Ezekowitz has served on the Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke Prevention guidelines committee for the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology and Heart Rhythm Society.
Dr. Ezekowitz earned an MBChB degree from the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa and completed postgraduate training at Groote Schuur Hospital, also in Cape Town. He earned a PhD degree from Imperial College, London University in the United Kingdom. He completed fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
