John Alexander, MD, MHS

    Dr. John Alexander is a cardiologist and associate professor of medicine at Duke University School of Medicine and a faculty member at the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI). He attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his residency training in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at Duke University Medical Center. His clinical interests are in acute and general cardiovascular disease, valvular heart disease, and echocardiology. Dr. Alexander's research interests are focused on the therapeutics of acute coronary syndromes, chronic coronary artery disease and other forms of chronic cardiovascular disease and on novel methodological approaches to clinical research. He serves as the director of early phase cardiovascular research at the DCRI, where he oversees a broad portfolio of early phase clinical research. Dr. Alexander has served as the principal investigator of several large, multicenter clinical trials on novel therapies in cardiovascular disease and cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Alexander also serves as the director of site-based clinical research in cardiology at Duke.
