Dr. Jay Fawver is a managing partner of Fawver Wellness Clinic, a private psychiatric practice integrating the utilization of electronic medical records and practice management software, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Additionally, he is the president of Psychiatric Innovations, PC, also located in Fort Wayne, an organization that develops efficient strategies to improve treatment and quality of life for individuals suffering from mental illness. Dr. Fawver is also a clinical professor of psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with a subspecialty in geriatric psychiatry.
A graduate of Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana, Dr. Fawver was a pharmacist prior to his medical training, and he has been an advisor to several pharmaceutical companies for more than 15 years, participating as a principal investigator and assisting in the development of medication studies.
Dr. Fawver has lectured nationally and internationally to psychiatrists and healthcare professionals on the topics of psychosis, dementia and mood disorders. An advocate for the clubhouse model of rehabilitation for the chronically mentally ill, Dr. Fawver is a founding board member of the Carriage House, a clubhouse recovery program in Fort Wayne, and the only American psychiatrist board member of the International Center for Clubhouse Development, based in New York City. He has been a regular host and moderator on the Distance Learning Network, a nationally televised satellite program introducing the latest innovations in psychiatry. Since 1997, he has hosted and produced the PBS series "Matters of the Mind With Dr. Jay Fawver," a weekly 30-minute television program addressing mental health topics.
In 1998, Dr. Fawver received the American Psychiatric Association Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education. In 2000, he was presented the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill's Exemplary Psychiatrist Award.
