Dr. Fred G. Toffel is in private practice in endocrinology and metabolism in Las Vegas. Upon arriving in Nevada in 1984, he played an active role at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, attaining an appointment as clinical associate professor of medicine and chairing the Las Vegas division of endocrinology. He serves as adjunct associate professor of medicine and endocrinology at the Touro University - Nevada, College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Toffel has served as medical director of the Diabetes Treatment Center at Desert Springs Hospital since its inception in 1991, and is an appointee to the medical advisory committee of Healthways, a disease management company.

Dr. Toffel graduated with a BS from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and received his MD from Medical Collage of Pennsylvania. His training continued with an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, and completed a clinical and research fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Chicago. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is a charter member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. He currently serves as president of the Nevada chapter of the AACE.

Dr. Toffel is active in the Nevada diabetes community. He has been on the board of directors of both the Las Vegas Chapter and Nevada Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association, serving a term as affiliate president. He also co-founded an annual summer camp for Nevada children with diabetes. He is a speaker for both the public and professional community, including hosting a weekly diabetes-related television talk show.
