Charles Kerr, MD
Charles Kerr, MD

    Dr. Charles Kerr is the president of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, and director of the electrophysiology program at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is also the chair of the Provincial Advisory Panel on Cardiac Health for British Columbia Ministry of Health.

    Dr. Kerr served as the head of the University of British Columbia's division of cardiology from 1988 to 2003 and as the inaugural Sauder Family and Heart and Stroke Foundation Chair in Cardiology. He was the head of the cardiology division at St. Paul's Hospital from 1995 to 2002. He has been extremely active with the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, as the annual meeting chair from 2004 to 2006, and then as vice-president from 2006 to 2008.

    Dr. Kerr received his medical degree and specialty in internal medicine from the University of British Columbia (UBC), trained from 1979 to 1981 in the electrophysiology program at the Duke University School of Medicine, and went on to establish a clinical and research program in cardiac electrophysiology at UBC. His principal interests are in the area of atrial fibrillation and device utilization for management of arrhythmias. He has chaired the Canadian Registry of Atrial Fibrillation, a group of eight experts in arrhythmia management across the country who follow a large cohort of patients with atrial fibrillation.
