Dr. DeMichele is the Jill and Alan Miller Associate Professor in Breast Cancer Excellence, Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania and Senior Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She is Co-Leader of the Breast Cancer Research Program and Co-Director of the 2-PREVENT Breast Cancer Translational Center of Excellence at the Abramson Cancer Center. Dr. DeMichele earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from Brown University, an M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine (as a Four Schools Physician-Scientist Scholar) and a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. She trained in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently joined the faculty as a breast cancer oncologist and molecular epidemiologist whose research focuses on developing breast cancer biomarkers and novel therapeutics. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts. She is currently the Principal Investigator of numerous investigator-initiated clinical trials, an international cooperative group adjuvant trial and epidemiologic studies, and serves as Chair of Trial Operations for the I-SPY2 Trial, a multicenter clinical trial in which targeted therapeutics are tested in the context of molecular and MRI imaging response profiles in patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy for locally-advanced breast cancer. She is a past recipient of a Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, a Clinical Research Training Grant from the American Cancer Society and a Patient-Oriented Career Development Award (K23) from the NIH. Her research is currently supported through grants from the NIH, Komen Foundation, Breast Cancer Research Foundation and numerous pharmaceutical contracts. She is currently an Associate Editor at Breast Cancer Research and has served on the American Board of Internal Medicine Oncology Subspecialty Board, and numerous editorial boards, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology. She currently serves on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Breast Cancer Education and Scientific Program Committees, the AACR Women In Cancer Research Committee and previously served as track leader of ASCO’s Clinical Trials Education Committee and faculty member of the ASCO/EORTC Markers in Cancer Tutorial. Dr. DeMichele is actively involved in teaching and mentoring Master’s Degree students in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, where she directs a graduate course on Clinical Trials and Translational Research and previously directed the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship Program at the University of Pennsylvania from 2008 – 2013.
