Mitchel Goldman:
Hi, I'd like to talk about a new pearl, which I think you're going to find really useful. So many people have what are called epidermal inclusion cysts that many people just call sebaceous cysts, and we know that they can be really messy and difficult when you have to surgically excise them with the cyst contents being splashed in your face, or even worse your nurse's face. So what we've developed is a new way of treating epidermal inclusion cysts. What we do is we take a sclerotherapy medication, sodium tetradecyl sulfate 3%, we foam it one CC of solution to four CCs of air. What we do is we express out all of the cyst wall contents, and then we inject the foam sclerotherapy into the cyst.
What happens is you produce a little bit of inflammation, it destroys the cyst wall lining, and the cyst goes away. Now my colleague, Dr. Raheel Zubair, is actually going to publish this. We've just treated eight patients all with success, and we do histological examinations three months after showing total resolution of the cyst and destruction of the cyst wall. So a new potentially really useful treatment for those of people and your patients that have epidermal inclusion cysts.
