Laser resurfacing is one of the most popular treatments at most dermatology practices, and it is no different at my four offices in the New York City area, where we have a total of 12 board-certified dermatologists and we focus primarily on cosmetic procedures. There are always candidates who need resurfacing for acne scars, wrinkles, and various other indications.
I have used the Fraxel® DUAL non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) system from Solta Medical since it first launched, and it has been an exceptional asset for my practice. Everything they did consisted of minor upgrades that led to significant improvement in the overall delivery system from the physician’s perspective, while the patient gets the same energy, the same passes, and the same recovery time. A 2025 beta-testing survey of 22 clinicians (including myself) and 97 patients treated with the Fraxel FTX system suggested that it offers improved ergonomics, workflow efficiency, and patient comfort. The large majority of clinicians reported better cable bundling, better fatigue-reducing ergonomics, significantly faster switching between tips, and more convenience with the 7-mm tip. Patients, meanwhile, mostly rated the cooling effect as better than Fraxel DUAL and the healing process as comfortable; 91% reported satisfaction with the treatment experience, and 95% expressed overall satisfaction with treatment results.
I still use the Fraxel DUAL® in one of my offices and I still love it. Adding a new piece of technology to a practice is not always easy, but with Fraxel FTX delivering the familiar Fraxel experience with improved ease of use, I can feel confident integrating it into my workflow and continuing to provide a reliable experience for my patients.
