  • Overview

Older adults with obesity often pursue weight loss, but this can come at the cost of muscle and bone. That’s why the INVEST in Bone Health trial tested whether weighted vests or resistance training could help mitigate weight loss-associated bone loss. And while neither intervention fully prevented hip bone loss, the study revealed promising biological signals and highlighted real-world considerations for adherence and safety. Joining Ashley Baker to discuss the study’s findings and their potential implications for managing bone health in aging populations is Dr. Kristen Beavers. She’s a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Section on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine and an Associate Director of the Sticht Center for Healthy Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
