  • Overview

Despite its prevalence, osteoporosis is often underdiagnosed in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), posing a serious risk of fractures and mortality. Given this urgent need for improved recognition and treatment of bone disease in CKD patients, Ryan Quigley speaks with Dr. Charles Ginsberg about the reliability of DEXA scans, the diagnostic value and limitations of bone biopsies, and the rationale for using anabolic therapies in low bone turnover states. Dr. Ginsberg is not only an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the UC School of Medicine and a board-certified nephrologist at UC San Diego Health, but he’s also the author of a recent review that examined the link between osteoporosis and CKD.
