  • Overview

Exercise plays a central role in osteoporosis management and fracture prevention, with evidence showing that balance, functional, and resistance training are more effective than aerobic exercise for reducing fall risk. But tailoring prescriptions based on fracture risk, mobility, and comorbidities remains essential to ensure safety, adherence, and meaningful outcomes. Given this importance, Ryan Quigley speaks with Dr. Lora Giangregorio about how we can best utilize exercise interventions for osteoporosis and fracture prevention based on the 2023 CMAJ clinical practice guideline. Not only is Dr. Giangregorio the Tier One Canada Research Chair in Bone Health and Exercise Science at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, but she’s also one of the contributors to the guidelines.
