  • Overview

Over the past several years, immigration and healthcare have become increasingly confounding issues for our nation's lawmakers and policy experts. In many circumstances, like those where a hospital weighs the possibility of transporting a migrant patient back to their country of origin, the two issues overlap, and with medical, legal, ethical and diplomatic ramifications. In some cases, as we learn from Dr. Steven Larson, assistant dean of global health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and an expert on migrant health, some patients are even voluntarily leaving the United States for their home countries. Why is this occurring, and how does this put into perspective current concerns regarding the overall health of our migrant populations? Dr. Mark Nolan Hill hosts.
