  • Overview

    This activity explores current approaches to treatment intensification in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), including androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs), chemotherapy, and emerging targeted therapies. Drs. Scott Tagawa and Mary-Ellen Taplin discuss how disease volume, metastatic distribution, comorbidities, and patient goals inform individualized treatment selection. The program reviews key clinical trial evidence, the evolving role of germline and somatic testing, PTEN loss and AKT pathway targeting, and multidisciplinary strategies to manage adverse events and support quality of life during therapy.

    • Incorporate risk stratification guidelines to identify and treat high-risk patients with localized, non-metastatic HSPC
    • Apply patient selection criteria for intensified combination strategies in metastatic HSPC that consider disease burden and comparative survival benefits of triplet therapies
    • Develop interprofessional strategies to proactively manage adverse events associated with ADT intensified regimens in HSPC 
    • Review emerging molecular profiling approaches with potential to personalize treatment selection in metastatic HSPC with next-generation targeted therapies
