When “normal” test results mislead, critical diagnoses can be missed. So how can we improve diagnostic accuracy in systemic mastocytosis? To find out, Dr. Alexandria speaks with Dr. Tracy George, President and Chief Scientific Officer at ARUP Laboratories as well as a Professor of Pathology at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah. In their conversation, Dr. George explains why serum tryptase alone is insufficient and emphasizes the importance of recognizing clinical clues, such as skin findings, unexplained allergies, and osteoporosis. She then outlines how we can apply WHO and ICC diagnostic criteria and when we should pursue advanced testing, including bone marrow biopsy and sensitive KIT mutation analysis.
