Dr. Xavier Soler joined GlaxoSmithKline as a US Respiratory Medical Expert based in San Diego, California in October 2018. Dr. Soler received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain where he also completed his fellowship in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine as well as a specialization in Non-Invasive Ventilation and Tobacco Cessation. He was a practicing pulmonologist in Spain prior to moving to the US to join the University of California as a visitor scholar in 2006 and faculty physician in January of 2010 in the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep division. Dr. Soler is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego and served as the Medical Director for Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Director of the Clinical Trials Center & Airway Research Center. He was also Director of Cardiopulmonary Services for El Centro Regional Medical Center, a UC San Diego affiliate. Dr. Soler has published more than fifty original manuscripts and book chapters in COPD, asthma and sleep medicine and has been principal investigator in several clinical research trials, as well as principal investigator for the COPDGene study and the American Lung Association / Airway Clinical Research Center network (ALA-ACRC) before joining GlaxoSmithKline.
