Dr. Thomas R. Swift became the 29th president of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) at its annual meeting in April 2005. He was chair of the department of neurology at the Medical College of Georgia for 20 years prior to being appointed Professor Emeritus. He is board certified in psychiatry and neurology.

Dr. Swift has been president of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, president of the Society of Clinical Neurologists, chair of the Myasthenia Gravis Medical Advisory Board, and has sat on the editorial boards of Archives of Neurology, Muscle and Nerve, Journal of Clnicial Apheresis, and Southern Medical Journal.
