Dr. Susan Phillips is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). She is a member of the Lawson-Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Phillips completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Following her clinical training, Dr. Phillips completed a basic research fellowship in diabetes within the Diabetes Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disorders at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Phillips has been with UCSD since 2001, where she works both as a clinician and a basic researcher. Her current research involves a translational approach to the study of obesity, and specifically fat hormones and their influence on the body's response to insulin.
