Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh did his masters in general surgery (1991) and also in plastic surgery (1993) from the prestigious Institute of Medical Sciences of Banaras Hindu University. He is also a deplomate of National Board of India in plastic surgery. He acquired further training in various hospitals in India ,USA and UK.

Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh decided to settle down in Varanasi to serve the needy and poor patients of this part of the country which was relatively underdeveloped and poor. In 2001 he started a hospital, G.S. Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital and Trauma Center in the memory of his father Gyan Singh, who died without adequate medical attention when Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh was 12. The aim of this hospital was to provide state of the art medical care to the needy patients here at an affordable cost with lot of love care and respect. Soon this hospital became well known and Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh received many academic and civic recognitions and awards.

He has received the prestigious Peet Prize of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India and has been faculty in various continuing Medical Education Programs (CME) and conferences. He also won Smile Train Hero Award at Baltimore for his contributions to the cleft patients. He became the project director of Smile Train and started free surgeries for cleft patients in 2004 and completely dedicated himself to the cause of cleft  patients. Soon his hospital became very famous for cleft surgeries and started performing highest number of  free cleft surgeries in the world. Now  doctor Subodh and his team provides free cleft surgeries to more than 3,500 patients every year and they have performed more than 14,000 cleft surgeries in last 5 years.
