Steven Stack, MD

    Dr. Steven J. Stack is an emergency physician residing in Lexington, Kentucky. In June 2006 he was elected to the American Medical Association (AMA) Board of Trustees (BOT). Dr. Stack, board-certified in emergency medicine, practices at St. Joseph Hospital East where he is chair and medical director of the department, overseeing a 36,000-annual-patient-visit community emergency department. Dr. Stack is the first emergency medicine board-certified physician to serve on the AMA-BOT.

    Within the AMA, Dr. Stack has served as speaker of the Medical Student Section, vice chair of the Resident and Fellow Section, AMA House of Delegates (HOD) alternate delegate representing the Young Physician Section, and AMA-HOD delegate representing emergency medicine. He has also served on the governing boards of the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association, National Emergency Medicine Political Action Committee, Tennessee College of Emergency Physicians and Ohio State Medical Association. He is currently chair of both the AMA Compensation Committee and the AMA Health Information Technology Advisory Group.

    Dr. Stack graduated magna cum laude from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusettes, where he was a Henry Bean Scholar for classical studies. He then completed his medical school and emergency medicine residency training at Ohio State University before moving to Memphis, Tennessee, to begin his clinical practice. During his five years in Memphis, Dr. Stack practiced at Baptist Memorial Hospital, a 700-bed tertiary care community medical center, where he subsequently served as medical director for its 53,000- annual-patient-visit emergency department. In June 2006 Dr. Stack and his family relocated to Lexington, Kentucky.
