Dr. Sheri Colberg is an author, exercise physiologist, and professor of exercise science at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, as well as director of the Human Performance Laboratory. She is also an adjunct professor of internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, also in Norfolk.
Dr. Colberg earned her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. She specializes in research on diabetes and exercise and is funded by the American Diabetes Association and others conducts to conduct extensive clinical research into type 2 diabetes and exercise. She has authored eight books; over 200 research and educational articles on physical activity, diabetes, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, and aging; and nine book chapters.
In addition, Dr. Colberg has over 42 years' worth of practical experience as a (type 1) diabetic exerciser and person living with diabetes. She recently headed the revision of a position stand on "Exercise and Type 2 Diabetes" jointly for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Diabetes Association in 2010, as well as represented the American Diabetes Association as an organizational partner in the launch and implementation of the National Physical Activity Plan for Americans and served on the ADA's Prevention Committee.
