Ronald Sherman

    Dr. Ronald Sherman is the director of the non-profit BioTherapeutics, Education & Research (BTER) Foundation, whose mission is to support patient care, education, and research in maggot therapy, leech therapy, and the other biotherapeutic modalities. Dr. Sherman also serves as laboratory director for Monarch Labs, a company which he co-founded in 2005 to produce and distribute medical grade maggots in North America. Dr. Sherman spends one day each week as an HIV specialist for the Orange County Health Care Agency. He spends the rest of his time studying the biology and clinical impact of myiasis-- maggot infestations.

    Dr. Sherman was a UC Irvine faculty member from 1995 to 2008. He earned his BS in entomology at UC Riverside, his MD at UCLA, and his MSc in clinical tropical medicine at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at UC Davis in 1987 and an infectious diseases fellowship at UC Irvine in 1991.
