Paul Ridker, MD

    Dr. Paul Ridker is the Braunwald Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and director of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, a research unit focused on the molecular and genetic epidemiology of cardiovascular disease, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Ridker graduated from Brown University before receiving his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1986. He completed his residency in internal medicine as well as fellowship in cardiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He received a masters degree in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1992.

    Recognized as one of the world's premier experts on arterial inflammation and heart disease, Dr. Ridker was included in TIME magazine's 2001 list of "America's Best in Science and Medicine" and the 100 most influential people of 2004. Dr. Ridker's areas of interest involve molecular and genetic determinants of hemostasis, thrombosis, and inflammation with a focus on predictive medicine, early diagnosis, and the underlying causes and prevention of acute coronary syndromes. He has been the principal investigator or study chairman on several multinational clinci trials, including PREVENT, PRINCE, Val-MARC, LANCET, the Women's Health Genome Study, and the JUPITER study.

    He is the author of nearly 200 original reports, 90 reviews and book chapters, and three textbooks related to cardiovascular medicine. He is on the editorial boards of several major journals and is a consulting editor of the journal Circulation. Dr. Ridker is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Epidemiological Society, and the American Society of Physicians.
