Miroslav Backonja, MD
    Dr. Miroslav Backonja, MD, also known as Misha, is Clinical Professor, University of Washington Medical Center, UW Medical Center for Pain Relief, Seattle WA. He has been Executive Director, Scientific Solutions Pain and Inflammation Franchise, at Worldwide Clinical Trials, LLC, Morrisville, SC. Dr. Backonja has served as a principal investigator for numerous Phase I-III studies across a range of neuroscience and pain-related indications and was integral in the development of several human experimental models of pain. He has more than two decades of experience. He was a regular and an ad-hoc Reviewer for NIH and international governmental agencies. Dr. Backonja served as Medical Director of Lifetree Center for Neuroscience Research at Lifetree Clinical Research, L.C.. He has served as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board at NeuroTherapeutics Pharma, Inc. and as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Zynerba Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He serves on editorial boards of Pain, Clinical Journal of Pain, Journal of Pain, European Journal of Pain and Pain Medicine. He is Emeritus Professor at the University of Wisconsin and Pain Treatment and Research Center. Dr. Backonja was a Clinical Professor and Faculty at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His clinical and research interest is neuropathic pain in its entirety, from pathophysiology to treatment. His research has resulted in many publications in peer reviewed journals including Pain, Analgesia & Anesthesia, Lancet Neurology, JAMA, Neuroscience, Clinical Journal of Pain, Journal of Pain and Brain Research, just to mention a few. His educational efforts lead to series of articles and book chapters and he made numerous didactic presentations at national and international meetings. Following his Neurology Residency at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Dr. Backonja went on to multidisciplinary pain fellowship training also at UW Medical School, during which he started his research training.
