Dr. Mark Smith is a professor of emergency medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and the chair of emergency medicine at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, where Dr. Smith also serves as director of ER One, a federally funded project to design the next-generation emergency care center. 

A fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Smith has chaired the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' Roundtable on Emergency Preparedness. Additionally, Dr. Smith has developed and published several multimedia teaching tools and is the co-developer of the Azyxxi^TM information system. 

Dr. Smith received his master's degree in computer science from Stanford University and earned medical degree from the Yale University School of Medicine.
