Dr. Jerome E. Groopman holds the Dina and Raphael Recanati Chair of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is chief of experimental medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He serves on many scientific editorial boards and has published more than 150 scientific articles. He has authored numerous editorials on policy issues for The New Republic, the Washington Post and the New York Times. Since 1998, Dr. Groopman has been a staff writer at The New Yorker. He has published four books; the most recent is How Doctors Think (Houghton Mifflin Company, 2007), exploring how physicians arrive at the correct diagnosis and treatment, and why they may not.

Dr. Groopman was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 2007, and has been a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Association for the Advancement of Science since the same year. In 2008, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
