Jay S. Skyler, MD, MACP is professor of medicine, pediatrics and psychology, division of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism, University of Miami. He is associate director for academic programs, and area leader for immunomodulation and tolerance at the Diabetes Research Institute, University of Miami. He also is an adjunct professor of pediatrics at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, University of Colorado at Denver.  

Dr. Skyler was study chairman for the NIH-sponsored Diabetes Prevention Trial for Type 1 Diabetes (DPT-1) which examined the possible effects of parenteral and of oral insulin in delaying type 1 diabetes in subjects at increased risk of the disease. He is study chairman of its successor, the NIH Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet Clinical Trials Study Group, which is conducting a variety of intervention trials in both new-onset type 1 diabetes and in subjects at risk of the disease.

Dr. Skyler has served as president of the American Diabetes Association, vice-president of the International Diabetes Federation, president of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, president of the International Diabetes Immunotherapy Group, a member of the Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Subspecialty Examining Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Chair of the Council of Subspecialty Societies (CSS) of the American College of Physicians, and member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians.

He was founding editor-in-chief of Diabetes Care, is scientific editor of International Diabetes Monitor, senior editor of Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, and advisory editor of Diabetologia.
