In June 2011 Dr. Howard Bauchner becomes the 16th editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association, with editorial oversight over the prestigious journal as well as the nine Archives journals.

Prior to becoming JAMA editor, in 2003, Dr. Bauchner became the first US-based editor of the Archives of Disease in Childhood, the official publication of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the United Kingdom. He is a professor of pediatrics and community health sciences at Boston University Schools of Medicine and Public Health,  where he has also been vice chairman of the department of pediatrics and assistant dean, alumni affairs and continuing medical education. He has published more than 125 papers in peer-reviewed journals and served on many editorial boards, including the British Medical Journal and Journal Watch.
