David Thomas, MD, CMD

    Dr. David Thomas is professor of internal medicine and geriatric medicine in the division of geriatric medicine at Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Thomas serves as director of clinical research for the division of geriatric medicine. He is the medical director for a teaching nursing home.

    Dr. Thomas is certified in both internal medicine and in geriatric medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has been elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Geriatrics Society, and the Gerontological Society of America. Dr. Thomas is a Certified Medical Director in long-term care by the American Medical Directors Association. He has received the Sir William Osler Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching at Saint Louis University Department of Medicine.

    Dr. Thomas currently serves as associate editor for the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association. He is a past associate editor of the Journals of Gerontology: Medical Sciences and served on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Annals of Long Term Care. Dr. Thomas has previously served on the PIER Continuing Education pressure ulcer module for the American College of Physicians, the Wound Healing Society Committee for pressure ulcers and venous stasis ulcers, and on the Board of Directors of National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and as an associate editor of Advances in Wound Care. Dr. Thomas has served on the Clinical Practice Committee of the American Medical Directors Association and is president of the Missouri Association of Long-Term Care Physicians.

    He has been honored as a John A. Hartford Faculty Fellow Award in Geriatrics and by inclusion in the Marquis' Who's Who in America and is listed in The Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors in Saint Louis. He is a frequent invited educational speaker both nationally and internationally. Dr. Thomas is active in the American Geriatrics Society, the Gerontological Society of America, the American College of Physicians, the American Federation for Clinical Research, the American Medical Directors Association, the American Society of Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition, and the Wound Healing Society. He has authored over 140 publications and clinical investigations well as 47 books or book chapters. Dr. Thomas is co-editor of Geriatric Nutrition. His research interests include wound healing and clinical nutrition.
