Daniel Einhorn, MD

    Dr. Dan Einhorn is the president-elect of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, a trustee of the American College of Endocrinology, a clinical endocrinologist and president of Diabetes and Endocrine Associates, a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California San Diego, and a medical director of the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute.  

    Dr. Einhorn was the chairman of the 2009 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and American College of Endocrinology (ACE) and is the founding chairman of the AACE/ACE Diabetes Council, which oversees all diabetes related activities of AACE/ACE. He was the 2005 recipient of the Yank D. Coble, Jr., MD, Distinguished Service Award from the ACE. In 2006, he was elected secretary of AACE, then treasurer in 2007, and vice-president in 2008.  

    He is editor of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America for Type 2 Diabetes, and Dr. Einhorn has also served on The Endocrine Society's (TES) Clinical Affairs Committee, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Managed Care Initiative, and on the regional ADA and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Boards of Directors.  He is past chairman of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Program of San Diego and Imperial Counties. He was the endocrinologist representative on the American Medical Association's (AMA) Diabetes Advisory Council and the current AMA website for diabetes management.

    Dr. Daniel Einhorn received his BA from Yale University (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Varsity Letter) and his MD from Tufts Medical School (Alpha Omega Alpha). He trained at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School for his medical internship, one year of psychiatry, medical residency and endocrinology fellowship, and continued to serve there as an instructor in medicine.

    Dr. Einhorn's research and publications cover diabetes prevention and reversal, recognition and treatment of diabetic complications, new technologies and pharmaceuticals, combination therapies, and clinical decision-making.  He has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics, and has chaired meetings of the American Federation of Clinical Research in Carmel, TES Postgraduate Meetings in Diabetes, and numerous regional symposia. He consults to and is on the advisory boards of pharmaceutical and companies, reviews articles for Endocrine Practice, Diabetes CareThe American Journal of Medicine, and The Journal of the American Medical Association, The Journal of Endocrinology and MetabolismThe Medical Letter, and is on the editorial board of Diabetes Health

    Dr. Einhorn was co-chair with Dr. Gerald Reaven of the AACE/ACE Task Force and the Consensus Conference on the Insulin Resistance Syndrome. He is also past chair of the Clinical Research Committee, Membership Committee and of the AACE 3000 Campaign and has served six years on the Board of Directors of AACE. He is on the Board and Executive Committee of the California Chapter of AACE and has participated in regional AACE programs. He has presented at national AACE meetings for the past 10 years on subjects ranging from the evolving role of the clinical endocrinologist to clinical strategies, devices, and novel compounds.  He has chaired and served on many AACE committees including Strategic Planning, Nominating, and International.  

    Dr. Einhorn's passions are his family and community service, and he is a board member of a number of philanthropies. He is especially interested in the education of children, preventive health care, and in the healing relationship.
