Col. Dr. James Ficke is the ­­­­­­­­chairman of orthopaedic surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and the orthopaedic consultant to the United States Army Surgeon General.

A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Dr. Ficke was recognized by the United States Army in 2006 with an ‘A Designator' for clinical proficiency, the military equivalent of full professorship. He also is an assistant professor of surgery at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and a member of the board of directors of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Ficke received his medical degree from Uniformed Services University, completed a transitional internship at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash., and finished his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.

He has completed an AO fellowship in trauma in Munich Germany, and foot and ankle with Dr James Brodsky in Dallas Texas. He has served as the Co-Chair of the Extremity War Injury Symposium sponsored by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeonsfor the past 3 years.
