Catherine Hoelzer is a health education/medical training officer in South Sudan, Africa. She has also worked as a nutrition assistant in the Darfurian refugee camps in Chad. In 2003 she volunteered as a healthcare worker in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she worked in mobile medical clinics that traveled to small villages outside of Kabul. She has also worked on medical outreach and refugee assistance programs in Mexico, Turkey, Northern Iraq, Bosnia Herzegovina, Tanzania and the Philippines. In 2007, Ms. Hoelzer won the AAPA's Humanitarian Physician Assistant award.
