Arcutis has partnered with World Champion gymnast Simone Biles to launch Skin to Believe In, an awareness campaign focused on seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis, according to a press release from the company.

The campaign centers on Biles’ experience managing symptoms of both chronic inflammatory skin conditions and seeking treatment from a dermatologist after over-the-counter products did not provide adequate relief. Biles said she initially experienced flaking and itching on her scalp, along with recurring dry, itchy patches on her arms. After evaluation, her dermatologist diagnosed seborrheic dermatitis affecting her face and scalp and eczema affecting her arms. She subsequently began treatment with roflumilast foam for seborrheic dermatitis and roflumilast cream for eczema.

“I’ve learned that we can’t fix every problem on our own and it’s OK to seek help,” Biles said in the news release.

ZORYVE for Seborrheic Dermatitis and Atopic Dermatitis

Roflumilast is a once-daily, steroid-free phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor available in topical foam and cream formulations. ZORYVE foam 0.3% is indicated for seborrheic dermatitis in adults and children aged 9 years and older, according to Arcutis. ZORYVE cream 0.15% is indicated for atopic dermatitis in adults and children aged 6 years and older.

In combined seborrheic dermatitis clinical trials cited by the company, 77% of 458 patients receiving roflumilast foam achieved clear or almost clear skin after 8 weeks compared with 53% of 225 patients receiving vehicle. For atopic dermatitis, Arcutis reported that 31% of 884 patients treated with roflumilast cream achieved clear or almost clear skin at 4 weeks compared with 14% of 453 patients receiving vehicle.

Angela J. Lamb, MD, a board-certified dermatologist quoted in the announcement, said newer prescription treatments can offer additional options for long-term management of these chronic inflammatory skin diseases.

The Skin to Believe In campaign will use Biles’ experience to raise awareness of seborrheic dermatitis and eczema and encourage conversations between patients and healthcare professionals about treatment options.
