Probiotic Efficacy in Obesity: Insights from Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP06CC2

In a recent study, lactiplantibacillus plantarum strain 06CC2 reduced epididymal fat accumulation, shifted adipocyte size toward smaller cells, and attenuated early hepatic steatosis in an 8-week diet-induced obesity mouse model.
LP06CC2 mitigated adipose inflammatory gene expression and produced measurable changes in the gut microbiome. 16S rRNA sequencing showed increased alpha diversity and a partial restoration of microbial composition toward baseline, with suppression of high‑fat diet–enriched taxa that correlated with adiposity metrics.
Together, the metabolic and microbiome shifts—reduced fat accumulation, smaller adipocytes, less hepatic steatosis, and higher microbial diversity—point to a microbiota-mediated pathway worth testing in early human studies.
