A new peer-reviewed study published in Dermatology and Therapy reported significant improvements in multiple objective measures of hair growth among women using Nutrafol Hair Growth Nutraceuticals over a 6-month treatment period.
The prospective, open-label, randomized study enrolled 180 women aged 18 to 70 years who received Nutrafol formulations tailored to life stage and lifestyle, including menopause and postpartum formulations. Participants were evaluated at baseline, Day 90, and Day 180 using Canfield HairMetrix® imaging technology to measure linear hair growth rate (LHGR), hair counts, and scalp coverage. Validated patient self-assessment questionnaires were also administered throughout the study.
Study Evaluated Linear Hair Growth Rate as a Primary Objective Endpoint
Investigators reported statistically significant improvements in LHGR across study groups, with hair growth rates increasing 19% to 37% from baseline (P < .001). The study also demonstrated statistically significant increases in anagen (actively growing) hairs, total hair count, terminal hair count, and overall scalp coverage. Patient-reported outcomes were consistent with the objective clinical findings.
"Measuring linear hair growth rate is rarely done in clinical hair research because the technical demands are significant," said principal investigator Raja K. Sivamani, MD, MS, AP, in a company statement. "The speed of hair growth is something patients notice and care about deeply, and it's exciting to see a multitargeting nutraceutical approach validated on this dimension alongside the other improvements we've seen."
According to the investigators, LHGR represents an infrequently evaluated endpoint in hair research because of the specialized imaging equipment required. The findings were first presented at the 2026 World Congress for Hair Research in Seoul, South Korea, before undergoing peer review and publication.
The authors concluded that targeted, multitarget nutraceutical formulations improved linear hair growth rate and additional objective measures of hair health over 6 months in women experiencing hair thinning.
