The authors conducted a targeted PubMed review of English-language literature using the keywords radiofrequency, microwave, ultrasound, and energy-based devices, supplemented by citation tracking and clinical expertise. Rather than presenting new clinical data, the article synthesizes available evidence across established and emerging device platforms.
Among the technologies reviewed, RF devices demonstrated evidence supporting treatment of skin laxity, rhytides, acne, acne scarring, and vascular lesions through thermally induced dermal remodeling. Fractional RF microneedling was highlighted as an effective option for patients with darker skin phototypes because of its low risk of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation.
