Allergan Aesthetics is continuing its commitment to supporting the next generation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through its longstanding partnership with Girls Inc.

On June 8, the company marked its eighth year collaborating with the nonprofit organization, which provides programming designed to help girls build confidence, explore career opportunities, and develop leadership skills. As part of this year’s initiative, Girls Inc. participants visited the Allergan Medical Institute (AMI) Atlanta training center for a behind-the-scenes look at how healthcare professionals are trained in medical aesthetics.

Attendee Breanna Blazich said the experience helped her “see how science is applied in real-world careers."

“Especially how a bunch of people have different backgrounds coming into the medical field...One thing that stood out to me was that one of the panelists was actually in sales, and found their way here [to Allergan Aesthetics] because they know they wanted to help people and help people get the medicine that they need,” Blazich said.

The visit featured a discussion, “Finding Your Path in STEM: Your Journey to Success!,” bringing together women leaders from AMI and across the medical aesthetics industry to share insights on career development, leadership, and opportunities within STEM-related fields.

"During the panel, 2 of the panelists discussed that they had previously been in different fields of science,” attendee Madison Robinson said. “They both realized they didn't like it because it was pretty boring for them. They couldn't talk to anyone because they were very social people. I didn't realize that for some people certain fields of science are better suited for them based on their personality type."

According to Allergan Aesthetics, the experience is intended to help students better understand how science, technology, innovation, and hands-on training intersect in real-world medical aesthetics careers. The program also aims to create meaningful mentorship opportunities by connecting participants with women currently working across healthcare and aesthetics.

The key takeaway for attendee Kaela Wright included learning that your career path can change over time.

“The most surprising thing that I learned is that when you first start in high school and what you plan to do for the rest of your life, that's not what you're actually going to do for the rest of your life,” Wright said. “Your plan is going to change; your life is going to change. You're going to have doors opening and closing throughout your lifetime."

The ongoing partnership reflects Allergan Aesthetics’ broader efforts to promote STEM education and workforce development while helping young women envision future careers in science, healthcare, and innovation.
