Allergan Aesthetics Invests in SkinMedica's Regenerative Science Strategy

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, announced a series of initiatives aimed at expanding SkinMedica's regenerative science platform, including the formation of a Regenerative Science Advisory Board, the expansion of its research and development laboratory, and the launch of physician-based flagship retail experiences.

According to the company, the initiatives build on SkinMedica's origins in wound-healing research and reflect an ongoing investment in regenerative skincare science.

"Stemming from its origins in wound-healing research, SkinMedica was founded on the principles of regenerative skincare," said Glen Curran, senior vice president of Allergan Aesthetics, in a company announcement. "For more than 25 years, the brand has consistently advanced science-backed solutions, and today we're excited to introduce initiatives that continue to reinforce its mission to support skin health from cell to surface."

Expanded Research Focus Centers on Regenerative Science and AI

The newly established SkinMedica Regenerative Science Advisory Board includes physicians, clinicians, and skin health experts who will provide scientific and clinical guidance through in-person meetings, virtual consultations, and educational content. According to Allergan Aesthetics, the advisory board is intended to foster collaboration, inform future research, and support scientific education surrounding skin longevity and regenerative skincare.

The company also announced the expansion of its SkinMedica research and development laboratory in Irvine, California. Now more than twice its previous size, the facility brings formulation scientists, biological researchers, and clinical experts together under one roof and incorporates advanced imaging technologies for preclinical skin research.

SkinMedica is also integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning into its research platform to identify novel biological targets, accelerate ingredient discovery, and improve understanding of the cellular mechanisms associated with skin longevity, according to the company.

In addition, SkinMedica has introduced in-practice flagship retail locations at Lycia Thornburg, MD Dermatology in Rapid City, South Dakota, and The Skin Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. The physician-based retail spaces are designed to provide patients with opportunities to explore SkinMedica products, learn about the underlying clinical science, and reinforce provider-recommended skincare regimens. Additional flagship locations are planned throughout the United States in 2026.
