2% Medicare Payment Increase Could Be Imminent

02/17/2025

A 2% payment increase for physicians from Medicare appears close after American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) president Seemal Desai, MD, FAAD, attended a congressional session on February 11.

“This bill has so much momentum that we are finally on the cusp,” Dr. Desai said during an AAD update at the Winter Clinical Hawaii 2025 meeting in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii.

H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act, would stop the 2.8% cut to Medicare physician payment from April 1 through December 31 and provide the additional payment increase for 2025.

According to Dr. Desai, several of the co-sponsors enthusiastically expressed their support of this legislation and even went as far to state that this legislation was so critical that, if not passed, they would be hard pressed to support or vote in favor of others bills put forth by other legislators this session who did not support 879.

Dr. Desai emphatically encouraged Academy members to take action by visiting https://takeaction.aad.org.
