Host Intro:
Welcome to Project Oncology on ReachMD. On this episode, we’ll hear from Dr. Chi Liu about his presentation on AI applications in nuclear cardiology from the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, or SNMMI, 2024. Dr. Liu is a Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at Yale University. Let’s hear from him now.
Dr. Liu:
So the session I presented yesterday is a session of artificial intelligence in Cardiology. So we have four talks. Mine was the second one. So we talked about all the four talks, starting with foundation models and the methodology, frameworks for artificial intelligence in different applications, the new technologies in the foundation models and diffusion models, and in the applications of how do we use artificial intelligence to improve image quality to perform attenuation, correction and scatter correction for cardiac imaging, and also move forward to how do we use artificial intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy. And in the last talk in the session was very interesting to describe the clinical applications of AI in the cardiology field.
The field of artificial intelligence in nuclear medicine is evolving very, very fast. And so every year we are seeing new models, new approaches. The performance has been dramatically improved from last year if you look at the abstract, the work of this year. So I think this is a very fast evolving field, and in my perspective, we just all need to work very hard to catch up and also not only in the nuclear medicine field, but also looking at other fields in artificial intelligence in imaging and large language processing, natural language processing, catch up with the ChatGPT. All those different things. It's a very exciting field and a very exciting time. Right now in the field of nuclear medicine, the trend of diagnostics in combination with artificial intelligence, that created a really exciting wave of new developments that I'm really excited about.
