Future Thinking in Urology: Looking Ahead and Expanding Knowledge

Announcer:
You’re listening to Clinician’s Roundtable on ReachMD. On this episode, Dr. Wayne Kuang will discuss the future of urology based on updates from the 2025 American Urological Association Annual Meeting. Dr. Kuang is the CEO of MD for Men in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Founder of the ManVsProstate campaign. Let’s hear from him now.
Dr. Kuang:
What does the future look like? We need to come together and apply future thinking. So, what we are asking ourselves is to envision the future. And then what we can do collectively is we can look back and then say, “Look, what are the thoughts that we need to be having now? What are the choices that we need to make today to impact a better future with a more preferred outcome?”
The second element is going to be holism, or holistic medicine. Everyone knows about the prostate, but now we can expand that knowledge, build upon that, and start looking at the bladder. And why the bladder? It’s not transplantable. There’s only two major organs we can’t transplant—the brain and the bladder—so we need to take care of it. We need to get that public awareness out there so that men out there recognize it’s not okay if you’re getting up three times a night and leaking down your leg. That could be your bladder talking to you, saying, “Hey, I’ve got a problem. You need to help me.” And the thing is, if you don’t take care of that bladder, it’s not replaceable.
And the last thing as we look into the future is fear. How do we manage fear? And we need to embrace the fact that fear is really how do we face everything and rise. And we need to do that collectively for ourselves, for each other and for our patients. We need to help each other face, embrace, and move through fear so we can become the best version of ourselves for all of our relationships—personal, professional, community and global.
