Dr. Ashish Bhatia:
Hi, I am Dr. Ashish Bhatia. I'm a board-certified dermatologist practicing in Chicago. I teach at Northwestern and Rush University and in private practice at our practices at Oak Dermatology, and I've been using PDT, or photodynamic therapy, for a long time to treat actinic keratoses. I'm really excited that recently AMELUZ was approved for use of up to three tubes in a single sitting. What this allows us to do is be able to do field therapy in the scalp, face, larger areas all at once. Not only is this more convenient for patients, it's a lot more efficient for our practices as well, and patients definitely appreciate the convenience and we will definitely see the benefits of that.
Now, this approval wasn't done lightly. It required two phase I studies looking at PK levels in the blood after an application of three full tubes, and showed that it was still safe. The blood levels were at very safe levels. And so this gives us a lot more comfort in being able to do large field therapy. Now, as you know, AMELUZ is the only PDT drug that's approved for not only field therapy, but also lesional therapy, and so we can still use it in the way we used to for lesional therapy, but now we can do large field treatments. So I'm very excited to use this in our practice, and I think it'll benefit our patients tremendously.
