  • Overview

Clinical studies in pulmonary hypertension (PH) have historically focused primarily on Group 1 disease and, more specifically, on idiopathic PAH. However, there are many subtypes of PH within Group 1 and other pulmonary hypertension classes of which the physician must be aware. Awareness can lead to screening, earlier detection, and expedient referral from the community level to the PH specialty center. This program looks at forms of PH not routinely discussed, including PAH associated with systemic sclerosis and connective tissue disease, PAH associated with congenital heart disease, PH associated with interstitial lung disease, and finally, drug- and toxin-induced PH. The program focuses on screening, referral diagnosis, and management of the disease.

  • Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, registered nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with pulmonary hypertension.

  • Learning Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

    • Review characteristics of PH patient groups that fall outside of the idiopathic category
    • Discuss the screening, diagnosis, and expedient referral of non-idiopathic patients to PH specialty centers from community generalists and specialty healthcare providers
    • Focus on understudied PH groups that require special diagnostic attention by all healthcare providers
    • Review treatment and management approaches to understudied PH patients
  • Accreditation Statement

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Global Learning Collaborative (GLC) and TotalCME, Inc. GLC is jointly accredited by the American Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
